Homework is given to reinforce learning, develop independence and as an opportunity for children to share their learning with their parents.

Parents are given guidance as to how long their child should spend on homework.

All children from Reception upwards should aim to do some reading every evening. Younger children are given reading books by their form teacher. There is usually a set subject each evening for older children.

Early Years children have fun ‘focus sheets’ regularly, with suggestions of activities that can be enjoyed with parents, covering all seven areas of the curriculum.

The introduction of the Read Write Inc programme will mean that some phonics work, with related reading, will be sent as homework. This is an opportunity for parents to encourage their child’s independence as they become more fluent and expressive readers. There will be a range of reading material that pupils will bring home in order to enhance and develop their phonic skills, capture their interest and share with others.
