Students had been thinking about “Big Questions” philosophically and the consideration of the creation of the universe led on from this.

The year 7 class (6th grade) were considering the Christian creation story. Their learning objectives were set out:

  • To know the 6 days of the Christian creation story.

  • To understand how the Bible presents the creation story.

  • To be able to present this information in a rap or a song.

We were initially focussing on the 6 Days of the Christian creation story and these raps were the end product of this lesson. Students were initially asked to do a memory Map activity which tested their thinking skills. They were in groups of four and had to come and look at a picture and then draw what they could remember. We then moved on to look at the Bible passages from Genesis and discussed any questions that the students had. They were then put into pairs and told to create a “Creation Rap”. They were given an example from a BBC Class Clip and given time to write, rehearse and then perform the raps and then write them up in their books or using their iPads.

The outcome was more engaging for the students due to the multimedia nature of the reports produced.  The engagement that came through the use of technology was a great help and leads me wondering 'where next?'
