A first Senior National Championships for Almudena

Published on 15/01/19

Stephen Perse 6th Form student Almudena gets her first taste of swimming at a Senior National Championship.

6th Form student Almudena had an excellent first Senior National Championship in The Netherlands last weekend. She competed in numerous races, including the 400, 800 & 1500m freestyle, 100 & 200 butterfly and 200 & 400m individual medley. Her highest ranking was 7th place across all ages in The Netherlands for 1500m.

As this was a senior championship, there were no divisions between the age categories. This meant that Almudena had to race against swimmers who were older and more experienced than her, which she greatly enjoyed. She was lucky enough to witness several Dutch national records being broken, as well as some para-European and world records. This has been one of her highest level competitions so far, and she is looking forward to competing in the long course championships in the summer. Our congratulations go out to Almudena for her performances and wish her success in future events.
