Huntington's Disease Association charity cookbook

Published on 14/05/18

A group of our 6th Form students have designed and printed a charity cookbook to raise money for Huntington's Disease Association

A group of 6th form students, aided by the catering team, have created, designed and published their own cookbook to raise money for Huntington's Disease Association. The students involved have said:

"We created a cookbook with recipes from students and staff, some of which were made by Diane Jackson, one of the school’s cooks whose husband suffers from Huntington’s. The idea is to create something personal and engaging that everyone can take part in while donating to a good cause. The photos were taken by students who have tried the recipes themselves! The cookbook will be sold for £9.99 and will be available at various school events across the Foundation"

Huntington’s disease is an illness caused by a faulty gene in the DNA which in turn can cause changes with movement, learning, thinking and emotions. Once symptoms begin, the disease gradually progresses, so living with it means having to adapt to change, taking one day at a time.

The cause is one close to the Foundation's heart and the charity provides specialist advisors to help people deal with the illness. The charity provides practical help and emotional support by visiting them, making referrals to care professionals and educating them which means better diagnosis.

There are some very tasty recipes in there and it's all for a wonderful cause - keep an eye out for students selling the cookbook at various Foundation events! If you wish to find out more about the charity you can visit the website here.
