6th Form students have adopted Home-Start Royston and South Cambs as their 'Charity of the Term' and are planning some fundraising activities to help the scheme raise much needed funds.
The charity supports families with young children who are in crisis, and may be facing isolation, housing issues, disabilities or mental health issues. Volunteers receive training to support families with weekly home visits that can last between 3-9 months to help them through a period of crisis, and is essential early intervention before a situation becomes critical.
Home-Start Royston & South Cambs no longer receives public funding and relies on fundraising activities to raise the £141,000 annually to support over 70 families in crisis across their region.
The students, led by Benedict, said "We heard about the charity from Melissa Santiago-Val, a Home-Start volunteer who works at the school, and wanted to help support vulnerable families. As part of our studies, community support is really important, and a great opportunity for us to make a difference locally. We are looking at running a cake sale and other activities in the run up to Christmas, and are really pleased to help".
Good luck Benedict and fellow students with this term's fundraising activities!
