On Friday 23 October, the Sixth Form held a 1970s-themed dress-up day to fundraise for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH), a local charity that provides care and support for children with life-threatening conditions and their families across Cambridge, Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk.
This term our boarding students have had the opportunity to take part in a number of exciting extra-curricular activities and trips alongside their studies. Students wore masks and were socially distanced from each other where possible during these activities to minimise the risk of Covid-19.

Last month Year 12 student Maddie won the Olympic Skeet Shooting Pathway Championships in Nuthampstead. We wanted to ask her more about the sport and how she feels about winning the championship.
Stephen Perse has announced Hayley Richardson as the Foundation’s Chief Financial Officer. Hayley will join us in January 2021 from her current role of Capital Projects Director and Project Finance Director at St Paul’s School in London.

Alumni Relations Officer Melissa Santiago-Val originally partnered with fellow creative Jane Horwood during lockdown, making vibrant community-use fabric face coverings. CommunityMasks4NHS raised £40,000 for NHS Charities Together, recruiting a network of 50 volunteers, making over 10,000 masks, worn by celebrities including ‘Strictly’ judge Craig Revel-Horwood; author (and SPF alumna) Lucy Hawking and Cambridge geneticist and broadcaster Giles Yeo.

The last two weekends saw 90 students in Year 10 take part in training for their Bronze DofE programme at our Dame Bradbury's site in Saffron Walden.
Over the last few years we have been pleased to welcome representatives from a large range of international universities to events at our old Sixth Form site. Last year we also had over 100 students and parents from schools across Cambridgeshire attend some of these conferences.
The Stephen Perse Foundation has been awarded the School Mental Health Award (Bronze Status) by the Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health in Schools by Leeds Beckett University. The Department for Education recognises the direct link between positive mental health in schools and successful educational outcomes. The Mental Health Award for Schools builds on this link and, the Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health explains that it “provides a framework for educational institutions to evidence policies and initiatives that work towards improving emotional health and wellbeing for both staff and pupils.”

Commencing from the start of the new academic year, the Stephen Perse Sixth Form will be located on Bateman Street in well-appointed and historic buildings that exemplify the best of this dynamic and inventive city, combining legacy and facilities to support student development.
Helen Roberts, Stephen Perse Admissions Registrar is reporting increased calls from parents of Year 11 students and by parents with children in other local and international schools who are clearly unsettled by the furore of recent weeks. She says that many parents are not confident in the ability in their new school of choice to be able to deliver the curriculum whatever the circumstances next year, or to ensure their child achieves the outcomes of the final years of school that best reflect their abilities.
Students in the Senior School at the Stephen Perse Foundation have achieved excellent results with 49% of entries graded 9, the highest grade possible, in this summer’s GCSEs. This continues a trend of academic achievement at Stephen Perse despite the challenging and uncertain circumstances students have experienced since the schools closure directive in March and lack of formal examinations.
Students in the Sixth Form at the Stephen Perse Foundation have achieved outstanding
results in this year’s A levels with 72% of grades awarded at A*-A. This compares particularly favourably with the national average of 27.9% achieving an A grade or higher.
These results continue a trend of excellence in the Sixth Form despite the extraordinary circumstances in a year without any formal examinations, instead replaced by a centre assessment grade for each subject, which has been through a process of moderation before being finalised and issued by the awarding bodies.
