Imagining and then processing ideas is a challenge for the youngest children, especially when a key outcome is writing a story.

Having read 'Ella's Big Chance' the children were inspired to create their own extra scenes based on the characters that already existed. The children used Puppet Pals to animate their new ideas for a new part if the story. Using camera captured images from the book, pre existing backdrops and their own voice overs the children can instantly make their ideas come to life and edit freely.

Now the children have a complete animation of their ideas and can review their story, edit it further and watch other's before beginning to write. Having the animation enables the children to focus on the writing skills such as punctuation, paragraphing, spelling and making better word choices. They are able to. Constantly rewatch the video to remember the content, narration and speech. Sometimes it can be hard for younger children to focus on all of the writing skills and make a really good final story where all elements come together. The iPads enable the children to focus on all their skills and edit as they go. This has proved an excellent tool for those whose first language is not English.
