Sticks and Stones

‘Sticks and stones may

break my bones but

words will never

hurt me.’

What a lie is this old rhyme,

Like a serpent that slithers into our souls;

In truth, to never hurt anyone we would have to learn to mime,

This ‘truth’ clearly has so many holes;

Stick and stones are known to break people’s bones,

But words can do the same;

Once you’ve said it you have so many loans,

For that person will feel dreadfully lame;

Words on a piece of paper can speak louder than your voice,

Breaking your bones is an experience of deep pain;

You have to make a choice,

Or the future is in vain.
