Dear Parents and Guardians
From the chilly first days back, to the now warmer days of late September, the Pre-Prep children have been immersing themselves in this term’s topic 'Food Glorious Food'.
Learning has taken place inside and outside the classroom, through a range of different activities. Our Reception classes have had their role-play areas transformed into farm shops and orchards, as they discover the properties of fruits and vegetables and sort them for their customers.
The older children have been to Ely Museum for the Feast of Fenland, and were amazed that a secret vegetable was used in the recipe for the chocolate brownie, while our youngest children have been on a taste exploration, trying foods from around the world.
The Year 1 and 2 classes planned a closer inspection of what food is made up of, and how it behaves when heated or mixed with other ingredients. This week they are investigating dissolving biscuits and will hopefully provide a solution to the staff room problem of how and why biscuits break when dunked in tea!
We have also spent September welcoming many new families to our Pre-Prep community. As the children grow into their new classes and gain confidence in new routines, we reflect on how well they bond as a class, and how quickly they become accustomed to the expectations of their new year group. Already our Year 2 children feel very responsible for their Kindergarten buddies and our elected school councillors are eager and excited about their role in influencing and changing the Pre-Prep experience.
It is not just the children that have been back in the classroom, we have also welcomed many parents at both our Madingley and City schools for the first in our series of workshops. Parents heard advice from Dr. Seuss on the importance of reading, and discovered how spelling is taught in Year 1 and 2. Dates for all future workshops can be found on our Pre-Prep calendar.
Finally we end September with our City Pre-Prep and Junior School Open Morning on Saturday 30 September. Please do register a place and come along to see the Junior School in action - we look forward to welcoming you.

International food festival
Delicious aromas filled the Madingley classrooms last Friday as the children bought in a dish to represent a country with which they had links for our International Food Festival ...

A visit to Madingley
Across our schools we regularly collaborate to bring our pupils together. Our approach provides new learning experiences outside the classroom, plus plenty of opportunities to make new friends!
